4 Essential Living Room Accessories

There are some stalwart items of living room furniture – a good sofa, usually with one or two armchairs, is at the heart of most lounges.

But what accessories are top of the list if you want to add to your choice of furniture?

Here are four of the most essential accessories, which can help to make your living room more comfortable, welcoming and adaptable to different guests.

1. Slipper Stools

These handy footstools give you a place to rest your tired feet, and double up as a spot to perch on for younger visitors.

If seating is at a premium when family members come round, a footstool is the perfect solution to draft in as a temporary extra ‘chair’.

And of course, when you’re home alone, it can return to its intended function and help you to sit back and relax.

2. Tub Chairs

OK, so you might have your sofa and armchairs, but if your living room frequently has to accommodate an extra occupant, a tub chair is an excellent option.

Position it alongside a bookcase as a miniature reading room within your lounge, or near a window to catch some sun or enjoy the view.

Tub chairs are firm favourites with many people for their lower construction, making it even easier to relax in a wider range of different positions.

3. Bean Bags

Bean bags don’t have to look cheap – leather and aniline covers are durable and visually appealing, with antique finishes to give them that ‘old saddle’ look.

A bean bag is the ultimate in versatile seating – throw it anywhere, sit on it however you choose, and just beat it back into shape when you need to.

You shouldn’t be too rough with it, but as long as you treat it with a little respect, a bean bag can be your best friend when it comes to informal lounging around.

4. Ottoman

An ottoman is another versatile option that can sometimes be a footstool and sometimes step in as a spare seat for young visitors.

These sturdy, geometric items of furniture are sometimes even used as a coffee table or as a resting place for magazines and so on.

Some ottomans are hollow to provide extra storage space, but at their heart they are footstools, so place yours where you can easily reach it to put your feet up, sit back, and relax in your living room full of all of the most essential furniture.
