For a floorboard effect when you don’t have original wood to restore, laminates are still the go-to option, and snap-together vinyl flooring can give a range of different finishes too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a living room, it might be best to avoid the really high-gloss finishes, but you can always add rugs if you want to make the room feel warmer and softer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The important thing is to remember that a laminate-floored, painted-walled room is likely to echo, so soften those hard surfaces with accessories – from rugs and footstools to clocks, mirrors and paintings on the walls – and you’ll help to break up the angles to cancel out echoes.<\/p>\n\n\n

Crazy for Carpets<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A truly luxurious lounge comes from having a wall-to-wall carpet, and while these are not the status symbol they once were, they’re still top of many people’s interior design lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maximise the plush factor with the thickest underlay you can afford, with the thickest, softest carpet on top – unless of course you specifically need something more durable due to young children or pets in the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Either way, your room should feel softer and more peaceful with one of its largest surfaces covered in this way, making it the perfect environment in which to relax.<\/p>\n\n\n
