Sales and Marketing Assistant -

An exciting opportunity exists to join a growing multichannel UK Retailer and Manufacturer based near Manchester. 


Following online and offline successes of sister brands including our own, a new retail arm has been created and with an imminent launch a multi-skilled individual is required to provide a combination of sales and marketing to fulfill the broad scope of the new position. 


Duties to include:

  • ·         Responding to inbound e-mail, phone and showroom enquiries.
  • ·         Compilation and distribution of brochure packs and samples.
  • ·         Managing customer requirements, exceeding customer expectations.
  • ·         Order processing / POS Payment.  Card handling and processing.
  • ·         Liaising with production and delivery partners to ensure a smooth transition from order to delivery.
  • ·         Maintaining / Updating Social Media Accounts.
  • ·         Sales and Marketing content creation for all outward facing literature and web content.
  • ·         Sourcing and introduction of future product lines, from existing or new suppliers.
  • ·         Updating and maintaining selected areas of an ecommerce website.
  • -         Creation / Distribution and Maintenance of e-mail marketing campaigns.
  • ·         Other adhoc duties as required.    


The position is well suited to an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, who is willing to challenge themselves to develop the role and be part of a growing business.


With support of a small team, the successful candidate should be able to bring new ideas to the table, whilst having the drive and skill set required to see them through to implementation. 


Person Skills:

The ideal candidate will be a confident outgoing individual with an excellent telephone manor and strong interpersonal skills.  An effective communicator with a high attention to detail and a team player willing to take on responsibilities within a changing and evolving role.


Qualifications Required:

GCSE     Grade A-C  in Maths and English.

Proficient user of MS OFFICE (Word / Outlook / Excel)


Preferred Qualifications / Technical Skills:

Retail Sales / Customer Service Experience

Web authoring software – Dreamweaver preferable but not essential.

An understanding of HTML – Preferable but not essential.

Adobe Photoshop or other graphics software – Preferable but not essential.

Google Analytics / Google Adwords - Preferable but not essential.



A strong academic background covering current digital marketing activities AND / OR hands on Retail / Customer Service experience is essential.



The position meets UK National minimum, however this will be reviewed within three months subject to performance, then once annually.

Sofa Company Careers

Our manufacturing past spans several decades, and were pleased that many of our staff have been with us for large parts of the companies history helping develop the company keeping us strong. We also recognize the importance of continuous development and improvement, and we are also proud to be investors in youth development and training. In association with the North Lancashire training group the company offers 1 year placements to young people looking to start an apprenticeship in manufacturing, we are pleased that many go on to successful careers within the industry.

In the last few years our sales and support team has expanded, and we are pleased to proactively seek out some of the best young talent in Manchester. Working with Manchester Business School, Manchester Metropolitan University, and The University of Salford, the company is pleased that three of the current team were recent graduates of their respective University. Every year the company offers a 40 week placement to one lucky University Graduate and within the past six years three were offered full time positions helping to produce the fantastic display of upholstery and support literature you see today.


The English Sofa Company - Charity Events

Proud to have supported the NSPCC with a sofa ‘give away’. Our doors were opened one cold Saturday morning on the 9th November 2007, staff donated their weekend and the company was pleased to give away 40 pieces of furniture to the local community. All money collected was donated voluntarily and no minimum donation was requested. Contributions were received from as little as £10 and up to £100 per item, in exchange for the free collection of many quality pieces of upholstery. All proceeds were donated to the NSPCC. The company was pleased to support the local community in difficult economic times whilst raising money for a brilliant charity.


Unfortunately were not able to give away furniture all year round, but in our current leather sofa sale and fabric sofa sale some might say we practically are giving them away!


The big boss climbs the big hill !

The English Sofa Company's very own MD, head honcho or the boss man (as he is sometimes known) braved Kilimanjaro with a small group of friends and made it !  Along the way he managed to raise a small amount of money for the NSPCC our preferred charity.  Expect to see further fund raising events posted soon.  If you woudl like to make a donation to the NSPCC you can do so directly through the NSPCC website.
